On Nov 6 2108, Fairfax County voters will be asked to vote for U.S. Senate, U.S. Congressman (in one of three districts), two Virginia Constitutional ammendments, and two bond issues. Herndon residents will also be voting for mayor and six town council slots. The U.S. and Herndon votes will be on the front of the official ballot, while the remaining issues will be on the back.

This amendment would empower the state legislature to authorize local governments to provide a partial local property tax exemption for real estate subject to recurrent flooding that undertook improvements to prevent flooding or long-term damage from flooding.

Virginia's Constitution already provides property tax exemptions to military veterans and surviving spouses. This amendment would allow localities to add the same exemptions to surviving spouses of first responders.
