Obamacare costs and impact

Hi Arthur, at the end of our last board meeting, you seemed to dismiss the high cost of Obamacare. Since you are a numbers guy, I recommend you rethink your position.

Obamacare is the number one issue in the US. Well over 100 million people are likely to lose their health care insurance and would have to pay much more in premiums and deductibles for "approved" insurance. You ignored the deductible part. Think of the fury most Americans will experience when they find out how much they will have to pay out of pocket for their deductibles when they get sick or injured.

Attached are the calculations approved by Obamacare for families of four making $50,000 and $100,000 per year. The $50,000 income family would pay 28% in premiums plus deductible, the $100,000 income family would pay 21%. Please read the attachments.

People are also losing the right to use their doctors and local hospitals. People with severe illness are likely to die, when they can't access their doctor and hospital. All this is due to Warner. If he had not voted for it, it would not have passed.

Many Americans will just drop insurance, considering the high deductibles, and pay cash. They could just take out catastrophe insurance. The fines are minimal and the IRS cannot collect them, if people are not due IRS refunds.

In a Justice Dept brief on Oct. 27, 2013, the Obama administration said on p. 27 "...a majority of group health plans will have lost their grandfather status by the end of 2013." The number of people who get health insurance through their jobs is 156 million.

Warner knew about this in 2010. The Federal Register, on June 17, 2010, Vol. 75, No. 116, p. 34,552 showed between 39 and 69 percent of employer plans would lose their "grandfather" protection by 2013. For small businesses the estimate was 49-80%.

Obamacare has about 14-18 new taxes.

This will be devastating for most of the US population. The message has not gotten through even to most conservatives. This is not a just a web site or a premium problem.

Thanks for considering this. Tom

The information below is about subsidized exchange coverage. Note that subsidies are only available for people purchasing coverage on their own in the exchange (not through an employer). Depending on your state's eligibility criteria, you or some members of your family may qualify for Medicaid.

Because your income is more than 400% of the poverty level, you would not qualify for subsidized exchange coverage. The information below is about unsubsidized exchange coverage.
